Mezzo-soprano Ruxandra Donose and pianist Sergiu Tuhuțiu performed this weekend at Medieval – Alba Iulia, part of the Salbek Opera Festival Series, a project initiated by the Salbek Castle Association.
Following the national tour Melodie, Dor, Magie, presented in February in five cities across the country, the two artists proposed in Alba Iulia a program that crossed different repertoires and registers, from lied and opera aria to musical and contemporary song.
The musical selection included works ranging from Rossini and Offenbach to Erik Satie, Irving Berlin, and Lara Fabian, as well as Romanian pieces.
The recital took place at Hotel Medieval and is part of a series of events designed to maintain a constant cultural presence around the Salbek Castle Estate, currently undergoing restoration, in Petriș, Arad County.
“We are interested that, during this period of transformation, Salbek Castle remains connected to the public. The events we organize are not just one-off occasions, but part of a broader effort to build, over time, an active cultural landmark,” said Ana Maria Mihăescu, president of the Salbek Castle Association.
“There is real interest in such musical encounters, especially when they are presented in contexts different from the usual ones. For us, it is important to maintain this direct relationship with the public and to bring the repertoire into as open a setting as possible,” said Ruxandra Donose.
The International Salbek Opera Masterclass, a series of premium courses led by mezzo-soprano Ruxandra Donose, tenor Ramón Vargas, and soprano Leontina Văduva, has reached its 4th edition this year and will take place between August 18 and 23, 2026, on the grounds of Salbek Castle.
The three internationally renowned lyric artists will work with 23 selected participants in a program dedicated to vocal technique and interpretation, with the International Salbek Opera Masterclass remaining the only course of this kind organized in Romania, with international participation. The International Salbek Opera Masterclass is addressed to young musicians aged between 18 and 35.
